It doesn’t get much better than the views found at Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. With seemingly unlimited vistas to the east and west, it is popular for both sunrise and sunset. This sunrise looks even better with some snow catching the dawn’s early light. Photo by Steve Perry. Posted on Tumblr by the US Department of the Interior, 12/17/15.

If you want to be the first person in the U.S. to see the sunrise, you’ll have to go to Maine. The morning’s first light hits Acadia National Park, revealing rocky coves and dense forests. It’s a spectacular scene in the sky and on the land. Photo by Rebecca Wilks. Posted on Tumblr by the US Department of the Interior, 12/3/15.

When the sun rises over St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge in October, it is greeted by autumn wildflowers, migrating butterflies and a great variety of birds. Northern harriers hunt over the refuge marshes, careful to avoid the alligators. It is a beautiful and peaceful place, found on the border of fresh and saltwater marshes in northern Florida. A magnificent sunrise at Blue Ridge Parkway. This stunning photo was taken by Eric Allen Van Tassel at the East Fork Overlook on the North Carolina side of the Parkway. Feeling lucky to stumble upon the overlook at the right time, Eric is still hesitant to show it off because “I felt the product does not reflect the overwhelming beauty and the excitement we experienced watching the sunrise that morning.” We know the feeling, but think this photo is definitely worth sharing! The first rays of sun hit the top of Mount Rainier and are reflected on the mirror-like surface of Tipsoo Lake. It’s an incredible sight and easy to experience. Mount Rainier National Park in Washington has hiking trails ranging in difficulty from easy to very challenging, so no matter your level of commitment, you can still get some amazing views. Sunrise over Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona is definitely worth getting up early to see. Steven Hirsch captured this incredible photo from Navajo Point – the highest overlook on the park’s South Rim. Just a few minutes west of the Desert View Watchtower, this viewpoint offers panoramic vistas to the west and a view north up the Colorado River. Photo courtesy of Steven Hirsch. Although the winter had record low precipitation levels in the Sierra, moisture in late spring and summer has resulted in a good wildflower bloom. A note from Bob: I did not adjust the color saturation on this; it was just one of those “saturated” mornings!

Colorful vine maples adorn the basalt monolith of Oregon’s Table Rock Wilderness. A 3.3 mile long trail with a modest grade climbs through stately forest past tall basalt cliffs before topping out at drop-dead gorgeous viewpoints stretching from high Cascade Peaks to the Willamette Valley. Table Rock stands at 4,881 feet above sea level and has a rich forest of Douglas fir and western hemlock, with noble fir at higher elevations. At least two endangered plants bloom here: Oregon sullivantia and Gorman’s aster. Deer and elk wander about its slopes, and the northern spotted owl have been seen among the old trees. From four trailheads, about 17 miles of trails give access to the Wilderness. Photo by Bob Wick, BLM. Posted on Instagram by the U Department of the Interior, 6/15/15.
Sometime it’s all about being at the right place at the right time. Case in point: This amazing photo of what appears to be Yosemite National Park’s Half Dome on fire. While photographing sunrise at the park, Austin Jenanyan noticed a cloud forming around Half Dome. It eventually morphed into the shape of a flame and was illuminated by the early morning light. It only lasted a few short moments, but Austin describes it as a surreal and magical experience. Photo courtesy of Austin Jenanyan. Posted on Tumblr by the US Department of the Interior, 6/12/15.
