A photo in the Washington Star identifies this young lady as "Miss Myrtle Lewton of Takoma, Md., Golden Eagle Girl Scout who received her decoration from the Queen of Belgium." Cheese Boards … Or What Do You Think They Are?   2 comments

Handcrafted ByI freaked out last weekend after selling several cheese boards … and I had to make more for our next big event.

Well, I call them cheese boards. You may think they’re perfect cutting boards for your small kitchen, RV, for cutting a sandwich, or whatever. To each his own. I’ll keep making them as long as people like them!

Today, Mrs. M’s Handmade is at the Thousand Oaks Street Fair. Come see us … and you’ll get to see these boards, up close and personal.

I’m working with some new woods here … and trying some new techniques in the shop, too. Please share your thoughts; would love to hear what you think of these new boards.

I Must Go To Whiskeytown   Leave a comment

Beauty found in tragedy:

While no one really knows the origin of the Whiskeytown name, local folklore tells of a miner by the name of Billie Peterson who had a mishap in the 1850’s. While hauling supplies back to his mine, the pack on his mule’s back came loose and a whiskey barrel went tumbling down the hillside, breaking on the rocks below and spilling its contents into the creek. From this christening came the name Whiskey Creek, and the small settlement that established itself next to the waterway became known as Whiskeytown.

Known for the sapphire-blue waters of its lake, Whiskeytown National Recreation Area in Northern California has more to offer visitors. This 39,000-acre recreation area is also home to pristine mountains, 70 miles of hiking trails and stunning waterfalls — like Boulder Creek Falls pictured here. Photo by Jesse Barden. I admit it: I’m a sucker for a star filter. But the photograph is spectacular, yes?

Flame Orange   1 comment

I had just about finished cleaning the garage (it could happen) and I glanced outside … to see the bright orange light of sunset projected onto the olive tree in our front yard.

I ran upstairs to grab my camera, tracking sawdust along the way. Velda will forgive me.

The photo is unretouched.
