When Mrs M’s Handmade went to its first craft fair – the now defunct Santa Clarita Street Fair – I brought along a number of cheese boards.
Today’s event (SCV Junction, at Hart Park in Santa Clarita), nearly a year later, will find me with these cheese boards on hand. Some things just don’t change!
You may have noticed that I’ve published about new boards for several days, and with this post, that cycle is at an end. I had about 60 boards in production in the shop, waiting on me to actually finish them. So I did.
This process is a part of my goal to create an inventory of 150 boards, and then relax. You see, last fall was entirely too tense for me, with boards selling almost as quickly as I could make them. For months. That’s a good thing, make no mistake, but I hope to get a bit farther ahead of the curve this year. I’m not to 150 yet … but with my production over the next few days, I just might be able to take 100 boards with me to our next big event in Kernville, CA: Whiskey Flats Days, 2/13 – 16. That’s the hope, anyway!

I love this size cutting board. These boards are 12″ x 16″ x 1-1/4″ … and I’ve been told that they are the perfect board for:
- the in-laws
- my brother
- my sister
- my roommate
- my cook
- my kitchen
- gifts
You are welcome to use them any way you would like, my friends. Personally, I think these are a bit small and light weight. They wouldn’t survive in Velda’s kitchen.
But then, I didn’t, either.
Take from that what you will. But if you are looking for a perfect cutting board, these are respectfully submitted for your consideration.
Cutting Board # 15 – 015. And the hits keep coming. The photo just doesn’t do justice to the florescence of this Yellowheart. Fabulous grain on this one. Hard Maple, Yellowheart and African Teak. 12″ x 16″ x 1-1/2″.

Cutting Board # 15 – 011. OK, settle down out there. Yes, this board is purple. You are welcome. Purpleheart, Curly Cherry, Jatoba, Padauk and Yellowheart. 12″ x 16″ x 1-1/4″.
These boards are smaller than I would choose for a cutting board … these are perhaps boards for your sous chef. Or for you to chop garlic. Or serve cheese & crackers. Or use in your RV.
In other words, I have no idea what these boards are for. What I know is that people like these boards. And that’s a good thing!
When I first started making cheese boards, I found that some people “insisted” on using them as cutting boards. That’s fine, but my wood selection for some boards really dictated that they be cheese boards – not cutting boards. So, lesson learned.
These boards can be anything their new owners want them to be.
Cutting board? Cheese board? No problem.

With the new year, I’m adding some new board designs and shapes. The designs shown here all feature laser engraving.
If you have a few weeks for me to prepare, then I can make one of these personalized gifts for you to present to your loved ones.
Me, I’m just hoping that having the boards on display with our wedding date showing will help Velda remember how long we’ve been married. ‘course, I still might have to do the math for her.
Y’all can tell when I’m kidding, right?

These 2-sided boards have finger hold slots routed on the ends, but do not feature rubber feet, as both sides of these boards are intended for use … the engraved side for display, and the opposite side for cutting.

Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge lies in northern Utah, where the Bear River flows into the northeast arm of the Great Salt Lake. The Refuge protects the marshes found at the mouth of the Bear River, providing a critical habitat for migrating birds. More than 250 species move through this area annually by the millions to rest and feed, including this group of burrowing owls, called a parliament. Photo by Katie McVey, USFWS. Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is otherworldly, with vast landscapes of canyons, winding rugged backways and balanced rocks. Pictured here is the monument’s Toadstools — stone caps of Dakota Sandstone protecting the softer sandstone create amazing hoodoos. David Lane created this stunning multi-image panorama of the area with the Milky Way above and radiating bands of red and green airglow visible. While Page, Arizona, is nearly 50 miles away from the monument (and only a soft barely discernible light to the naked eye), the long exposure of David’s camera captured the light more vividly.
