Brandywine Falls   Leave a comment

Though a short distance from the urban areas of Cleveland and Akron, Cuyahoga Valley National Park seems worlds away. The park is a refuge for native plants and wildlife, and provides routes of discovery for visitors. The winding Cuyahoga River gives way to deep forests, rolling hills, and open farmlands. Walk or ride the Towpath Trail to follow the historic route of the Ohio & Erie Canal. Photo of Brandywine Falls by Brian Frankforther. The Lincoln Memorial Is 92   Leave a comment

"In this temple, as in the hearts of the people for whom he saved the Union, the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever." Beneath these words, the 16th President of the United States sits immortalized in marble as an enduring symbol of unity, strength, and wisdom. It was on this date in 1922, that the Lincoln Memorial was dedicated. Photo: Andrew S. Geraci. Posted on Tumblr by the US Department of the Interior, 5/30/14.

A Bridge To The Sky   Leave a comment

The three majestic natural bridges of Natural Bridges National Monument in Utah invite you to ponder the power of water in a landscape usually defined by its absence. View them from an overlook, or hit the trails and experience their grandeur from below. Declared a National Monument in 1908, the bridges are named “Kachina,” “Owachomo” and “Sipapu” in honor of the Native Americans that once made this area their home. This is also home to some of the darkest night skies in the United States. Photo: Manish Mamtani. Posted on Tumblr by the US Department of the Interior, 5/29/14.

104 Years Old   Leave a comment

Glacier National Park was created 104 years ago this week, when President Howard Taft signed the enabling act that was passed by Congress. It's one of the most-attended Parks, and with vistas like this, no wonder!

The Dunes And The Rainbows   3 comments

The tallest dunes in North America are the centerpiece in a diverse landscape of grasslands, wetlands, conifer and aspen forests, alpine lakes, and tundra of Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado. Experience this diversity through hiking, sand sledding, splashing in Medano Creek, wildlife watching, and more! Photo: Eric Magayne
