When George Lucas filmed Star Wars, he used the California Redwoods as the home of the Ewoks. The Redwoods National & State Parks (they are intertwined) are truly a magical place, seen here at first light. Photo by Scotty Perkins. Tweeted by the US Department of the Interior, 7/3/15.

Redwood National and State Parks in California protect forests, vast prairies, oak woodlands, wild riverways, and nearly 40 miles of pristine coastline as part of the ancient coast redwood forest ecosystem. But most visitors come to see the majestic redwoods, which can exceed 300 feet in height. Photo by Jessica Watz. Posted on Tumblr by the US Department of the Interior, 4/24/15.

Tall Trees   Leave a comment

Most people know Redwood National Park in California as home to the tallest trees on Earth. But the parks also protect vast prairies, oak woodlands, wild riverways, and nearly 40 miles of pristine coastline, all supporting a rich mosaic of wildlife diversity and cultural traditions. Together, the National Park Service and California State Parks manage these lands for the inspiration, enjoyment, and education of all people. Photo: Jessica Watz. Redwood National & State Parks   6 comments

It’s not like you to go the Redwood National Park, drive through the entrance, and you’re there. It’s not like that. It’s most like the road to Hanna … which is a wonderful thing. If you haven’t seen that post, take a moment and ride along with me … it’s about the journey.

The north coast of California is a large forest of coast redwoods. There’s a hopscotch of national and state parks that are jointly managed spread around a 50-mile stretch of highway … and you get to explore the parks to your heart’s content. Don’t be concerned with whether you’re in a state or national park … no one cares. It is pretty, and enjoy every second.
